This eLearning module gives providers comprehensive information about the contraceptive methods outlined in Providing Quality Family Planning Services: Recommendations of CDC and the U.S. Office of Population Affairs (QFP). Using the information in this module, providers can help clients identify the contraceptive method that best fits their needs and preferences.

Note: As of June 2024, the Contraceptive Counseling and Education eLearning was replaced by two modules: this module and the Client-Centered Contraceptive Counseling Skills eLearning. 

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Accurately describe the full range of contraceptive methods
  • Assess the safety of contraceptive method use for clients with specific medical conditions or characteristics

This course includes four sections:

  • Section 1: Introduction
  • Section 2: Contraceptive methods
  • Section 3: Guidelines for contraceptive use
  • Section 4: Put it all together

Time: 2.0 hours

Continuing Education: 2.0 contact hours

There is no fee for a continuing nursing education (CNE) certificate upon successful completion of this activity. This nursing continuing professional development activity has been approved for a maximum of two contact hours by JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. Activity # RHNTC41.

Certificate of Completion: Yes- available after completing the evaluation and completing the entire eLearning course
