In this February 2023 webinar, the first in a series of four evaluation-focused webinars, presenters discussed evaluation basics and defined key evaluation-related terms. The webinar covered both formative evaluation, which is primarily intended to be used for program development and improvement, and summative evaluation, which is intended to show a program’s promise or effectiveness. The topics and key terms covered in this initial webinar laid the groundwork for the three subsequent webinars on: 1) monitoring and improvement approaches appropriate when implementing a teen pregnancy prevention program; 2) formative evaluation approaches appropriate when developing an innovative intervention; and 3) summative evaluation approaches appropriate for rigorously testing a well-defined innovative intervention.
