An institutional review board (IRB) is a committee charged with protecting the rights and welfare of human subjects in research. TPP Program grantees may need to engage an IRB when conducting program evaluations or other research. This tip sheet explains what constitutes human subjects research, when to contact an IRB, how long an IRB review takes, how much an IRB review costs, and who to contact.
