By the end of the group TA, participants will be able to:

  • Describe relevant context for youth participation, including the concept of adultism and the positive youth development approach.
  • Describe the levels and forms of youth participation in their programs.
  • Identify opportunities to increase youth participation, for example by hiring peer leaders and near peers.
  • Identify strategies for hiring, supporting, mentoring, and supervising peer leaders and near peers.
  • Assess their organizational readiness for hiring, supporting, mentoring, and supervising peer leaders and near peers.
  • Identify and take steps to incorporate peer leaders and/or near peers into their project staffing plan.
  • Identify resources to support TPP Tier 1 projects in implementing high-quality peer leader and near peer activities.

Participants

We welcome project directors/administrators, program managers, program coordinators, youth advisor supervisors, and youth advisory council coordinators from TPP Tier 1 grantee agencies to participate in this group TA on hiring and supporting peer leaders and near peers. We encourage two adult staff per agency to participate; this approach facilitates information sharing and action planning.

Group TA participation is limited to the first 10 participants and will be capped at two people per agency. The RHNTC will confirm that each registrant is part of a TPP Tier 1 grantee before accepting their application. To be considered, grantees must commit to participating in all group TA activities and covering travel and lodging costs to the Healthy Teen Network Conference in Phoenix, AZ.

Travel & lodging costs

There is no registration fee for this group TA.

The RHNTC will cover registration fees for up to 10 group TA participants for the full Healthy Teen Network Conference and learning add-on that will take place in Phoenix, AZ from November 18–20, 2024. Group TA participants will be responsible for their own travel and lodging.
