Addressing Syphilis in Sexual and Reproductive Health Settings Webinar

Cases of syphilis and congenital syphilis (syphilis passed from a birthing person to a fetus) have risen dramatically in the United States. Syphilis and congenital syphilis can lead to long-term health problems and death. Offering syphilis screening to sexually active people can help identify and prevent the spread of syphilis, and timely testing and treatment during pregnancy can prevent almost 90% of congenital syphilis cases. This webinar, a collaboration with the Clinical Training Center for Sexual and Reproductive Health (CTC-SRH), will describe recent trends of syphilis and congenital syphilis and explore ways in which Title X and other sexual and reproductive health (SRH) providers can enhance syphilis services and referrals to care. We encourage both clinical and non-clinical SRH agency staff to attend this webinar.

Speakers:

  • Tammy Bennett, RN, MSN, WHNP-BC, DNP(c), Associate Director of Clinical Training with the CTC-SRH
  • Yomi Obafemi, MD, MPH, Principal, Peak Preventive Medicine Consulting
  • Allison Finkenbinder, MSN, WHNP-BC, Reproductive Health National Training Center

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Describe recent trends of syphilis and congenital syphilis in the United States
  • Explain the role of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) agencies in addressing syphilis in the communities they serve
  • Identify at least three resources SRH agencies can use to support staff and providers to enhance syphilis screening, treatment, and access to care
