Recognizing Trauma, Responding to Disclosures, and Building Resilience Meeting Package
This is the fourth in the Trauma-Informed Approach in Adolescent Health: Team Meeting Series. This meeting package includes a suggested agenda and resources to help you facilitate team conversations related to recognizing trauma in the adolescents you work with, responding to disclosures of trauma or adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and building resilience among those you serve and your team members.
Program teams are encouraged to conduct the meetings in this series in order, so they can apply what they have learned in the first three meetings to this discussion.
Ask team members to review Steps 1 through 5 of this meeting package independently. Complete Step 6, which focuses on team reflection and discussion, in a group setting.
Learning Objectives:
- Review descriptions of trauma and ACEs
- Recognize the signs and symptoms of trauma in youth
- Identify steps to respond to youth disclosures of trauma in a safe, collaborative, and empowering way
- Describe ways to build youth resilience and the importance of program staff wellness
- Select at least one resource to learn more about the signs of trauma and ACEs, responding to disclosures, and building resilience to use in future meetings
To prepare for the meeting:
- Send a link to the meeting package to all participants and ask them to review Steps 1–5 independently before the meeting.
- Have a computer set up to view the meeting package. Or share during a virtual meeting.
- Make sure all team members have copies of the discussion guide (PDF) and the responding to disclosures job aid (PDF)
