A focus group is a way to collect data in which a group of participants gathers to share knowledge, voices, opinions, beliefs, and attitudes about a specific topic or concept. Researchers moderate the small group conversation to collect data that help answer key research questions. This tip sheet describes when a focus group can be helpful, how to prepare for a focus group, how to moderate a focus group, and how to use and analyze focus group data.
